Time With Author Julie Lessman

Authors Linnette R Mullin & Julie Lessman at Starbucks

One great things about fellow Christian writers is how open, friendly, and helpful they can be. When I discovered one of my favorite authors living in my home state and in the path I take to visit my family, we decided we had to meet. So, Julie Lessman of “A Passion Most Pure” met me for coffee at Starbucks in her hometown. She is so sweet and simply amazing. Not only was she excited about talking shop, she took time to get to know my 5-year-old and was sincerely interested in what he said and did.

When I handed Julie a copy of my “101 Facets of Faith,” she got really excited. Not just because she loves devotional books, but because I’m published. I guess I never thought much about it since its non-fiction and there are only a handful of my devos in the book rather than the whole thing being mine. Regardless, she was really excited and it encouraged me to know that even the “little” offerings I’ve made as a writer will count even in the world of fiction.

When we sat down, one of the first things she asked me was, “So, what’s going on in your writing? What are you working on right now?” She asked to take another peak at “Finding Beth” and then told me exactly what she thought I needed to do to get those first few pages right. So, it’s back to the drawing board - not to totally overhaul the thing, but to tinker with it and for that I’m so thankful.

We also found things in common as writers. All writers are wordy. It’s what we do. Julie and I? We’re not only wordy, we’re wordy for writers. It’s always nice to know one stands in such good company.

Thank you, Julie, for a wonderful visit and for taking time out of your schedule to encourage and pray with this newbie writer. And many thanks to that hubby of yours for his patient waiting. ;-)

To my readers, you can learn all about Julie and her books here. If you’ve read any of her books, please leave a comment and let me know what you think. I'd love to know!
